2. Enhancing Research Writing through Customised AI Chatbots: Strategies and Demonstrations

Generative AI chatbots have demonstrated potential to revolutionise many fields with their impressive abilities to simulate human conversation, and the domain of academic research writing is no exception. However, these tools are not without their limitations. The necessity for prompt engineering and the chatbots' inherent lack of contextual knowledge can pose challenges for users, particularly in the realm of research writing. In this workshop, the speaker first makes a compelling case for customising chatbots to re-use effective prompts and mitigate these issues. He will then illustrate the practical steps for customising chatbots to more effectively serve academic writing needs. Attendees will learn how to tailor AI tools to critically read research articles, generate innovative ideas, outline different sections of research manuscripts, and refine their written work. By employing these strategies, researchers can harness the capabilities of AI to optimise their writing process, while circumventing the limitations of the technology.
